Description
Alexander is a Russian apple variety brought into this country in the early 1800’s in an attempt to find cold-hardy trees suitable for commercial production. Exactly where this apple traces its history is unknown, but it was introduced into England from Russia in 1817. It was once a very popular variety in the South. Eventually being replaced by its extremely popular offspring, Wolf River.
Fruit is very large(big enough to make an apple pie from one apple), good looking, primarily yellow green apple with lightly red strip orange blush fruit. The white flesh is firm, coarse, and crisp. It ripens continuously over a period of four to six weeks, making it great for back yard orchards. Parent of Wolf River.
